I wanted to wish you a very Happy and Magical Birthday! You know who you are and why I'm doing this here. You're very special to me and though we cannot be in each others lives the way we were, I'll always care deeply for you. May this year bring all the wonders you deserve!
I've always supported the Gays. And although it is progress for Obama to say he's now for same-sex marriage, he still thinks it should be left to each State to decide. But this doesn't not give gays the same rights that the rest of us have. And I thought this was the land of the free. If Obama really want's to make a difference for the rights of all our citizens, not just those in specific states, he needs to fight to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) as unconstitutional.
Yes, it's true that in the states where gay marriage is legal, these couples can get insurance benefits for their spouses, they are considered family and allowed into the hospital rooms of their spouses if one should become ill. And yes, some progressive companies have taken the issue into their own hands, providing benefit packages specifically for homosexuals couples to have each other covered under the plan. So, on a state level, these specific rights for gay couples have been addressed in a small way.
But what about those who fall in love with someone from another country. If you're a heterosexual who marries you love from another country, your spouse can get a green card and travel back and forth between the United States and their home country without problems. If you're gay, you do not have this same freedom.
As long as our Federal Government doesn't acknowledge gay marriage as legal, neither does the INS. Such gay couples cannot simply marry their foreign lover to insure that they can live in the same country. For the foreign partner to be here in the U.S. he/she has to either get his/her green card trough other means. Or they can do what many gay couples are now opting for . . . move to another country, like Canada, where their marriage is considered legal, get residency there, become a citizen (a three year process) before they can come back and travel freely from the US to their native country.
Is that really a solution, driving the gays out of the United States? I don't think so!
But at least Obama, with his lack of support for gays on a federal level, isn't as harsh as this pastor from North Carolina who thinks we should simple separate the gays from the population, put them in a hole until they die off so we'll be rid of them once and for all.
It's unbelievable the extreme prestigious that gays have to contend with. Let's stop fighting and learn from our gay brothers and sisters and love each other freely by acknowledging the gay lifestyle as legitimate on all levels -- in our hearts and with our laws.
And please stop the radicals from trying to kill off one of the best sections of our population. How could anyone want the Gays dead? Watch this and if your so moved sign the petition:
Let's all do what we can to give everyone in our country the rights that we promise all our citizens. Freedom and the pursuit of happiness!
No one will ever have a better Fleet Week than NYC...ask any of my Sailor "friends" and the Marines I spent last evening with, playing "let's trade hats" all night long. And, of course doing Picklebacks, my new favorite drink!
The most fun part of my night "On The Town" was that within an hour of being out at Times Square hunting for some Fleet Week fun, I was kissed by two (maybe three...it's so hard to keep track) men in uniform and asked to join in a threesome (don't ask don't tell - yes two men on one me). Unfortunately, one of these lovely men decided that he should take my camera and delete photos he thought were incriminating, forfeiting any chance of any further fun with me...and insuring that my blog remained family friendly (sorta).
Seriously, no one can say that these fine men don't deserve every bit of graciousness and love we can give them. I think of it as supporting our troops! Watch Video for a little taste of Fleet Week fun with Red!!!
Do like I do and love our men in uniform. Support those who risk their lives to keep our country safe. God Bless America and Fleet Week!!
Ok....so another Kennedy is dead related to weird circumstances? Wow! Could anything else go wrong for them? The Kennedy's, a good Catholic family (and political dynasty), have had more than their fair share of unnatural deaths, scandal, embarrassment and problems.
This family, America's royalty, has suffered more of these issues than seems possible for one family. Maybe the fact that they are in the spotlight makes the numerous losses and problems seems so immense, but I think it's the numbers. One thing that each Kennedy generation has done was to have many, many children. I'm not saying that more children automatically means more tragedy, but it does mean more...
The latest Kennedy to perish is the wife of Robert Kennedy Jr., Mary Kennedy. Her death was ruled a suicide after Mary was found dead in the family's Westchester home on Wednesday, May 16, 2012. She died of asphyxiation due to hanging according to a medical examiner. The funeral for Mary Richardson Kennedy will be held Saturday at a Bedford church.
Since her death has come out, reports of her alcohol abuse and pills are all over the news, intimating that these were signs of her suicidal mindset. Who knows? Though her death was officially ruled a suicide, does not mean it was -- sometimes people hang themselves without the intention of dying. Another stressor identified was her pending divorce from RFK Jr., which he apparently filed for back in 2010. To me, it seems that after two years if he had wanted to divorce her he would have by now. It's not like the Kennedy's can't afford to get a divorce if they want one.
But the thing that Mary's death brings up most is the amount of suspicious deaths that are associated with this family. It began even before the assignation of JFK with his sister, Kathleen Cavendish, who was killed as the result of an airplane crash in Saint-Bauzile, Ardèche, France in 1948. But as far as the American Political family, it started with JFK's death in 1963. Here's a list of some of the more predominate tragedies this family has endured over the last 50 years:
Assignation of United States President John F. Kennedy in Dallas in 1963.
JFK's brother Sen. Robert F. Kennedy (father-in-law of Mary Kennedy) was gunned down in California in 1968.
Edward "Teddy" Kennedy, brother to JFK and RFK, didn't die when he drove a car off a bridge on Massachusetts' Chappaquiddick Island after a party in 1969, but Aide Mary Jo Kopechne did.
Joe Kennedy, the eldest son of RFK, didn't die in car accident he was involved in a 1973, but a female passenger was paralyzed for life.
David Kennedy, another one of RFK's 11 children, died in 1984 of a drug overdose (cocaine, so they say).
William Kennedy Smith, JFK's nephew, didn't die but is famous for a well-publicized rape trial in which he was acquitted in 1991.
Michael Kennedy, another son of RFK, died in a skiing accident in Aspen, Colorado, in 1997.
John F. Kennedy Jr. died in 1999 in a plane crash in Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Martha's Vineyard, along with his wife and sister-in-law.
Michael Skakel, Kennedy cousin (nephew of Ethel Kennedy Skakel, the widow of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy) was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison in 2002 for the 1975 killing of his teenage neighbor Martha Moxley.
Edward "Teddy" Kennedy, died in 2009 of a malignant brain tumor. He was praised for his work as a U.S. Senator upon his death despite the Chappaquiddick coverup.
Kara Kennedy, Teddy Kennedy's daughter, died of a heart attack after her daily workout in 2011 in Washington, D.C.
And now Mary Kennedy, wife of Robert Kennedy Jr., hung herself in Westchester in 2012.
The past half century has has been a hard one for the Kennedy's. But no one ever said that being royalty was easy...

OMG...did you see the latest SMASH on NBC? I'm referring to the Epi that just aired tonight - Monday, April 23rd.
I am officially in love with Bollywood.
The fantasy segment that takes place during the dinner scene at an Indian restaurant with Karen (Katharine McPhee) and her hot boyfriend Dev (Raza Jaffrey), which manifested as a Bollywood number, is the best thing I've ever seen. Now, I urgently need to go see Bollywood movies everyday! Watch some for yourself <HERE>
The number made me so happy that I had to rewind and watch it several times, over and over again, before I could finish watching the episode. It's amazing!
Thanks SMASH for opening my eyes to an artform I never knew I loved so much. BOLLYWOOD!!
(Sidenote: When I was out the other night having cocktails with my peeps from the Metropolitain Opera, I met one of the SMASH stars, Jaime Cepero, who plays Ellis (Eileen's Assistant). He was lovely, young and green. Someday, I'm sure he'll learn the value of knowing the crew that makes him look so good...like the name of his costumer.)

I'm never far from the salt shaker. People often scold me. Saying that I eat too much salt and that my taste buds are dulled. They think I add salt to create flavor in foods, but that's actually not true. In fact, I actually have more diserning taste buds than most. I am a "supertaster." A name given to those with a hightened sense of taste by Linda Bartoshuk, a psychologist who studied peoples taste perceptions in the 1990s.
There is a long history of studying this issue starting in the 1930's by Dupont. In another study completed in 2010, John Hayes, Ph.D., an assistant professor of food science at the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences, brought this issue up again. Probably bacause of the push for everyone eat less salt. However, this may not be the answer for everyone.
It is suspected that supertasters have a different genetic make up. Most likely born with more sensative tasters, or a larger quanty of taste buds, supertasters taste sensation is magnified. Salt is one of the ways supertasters make otherwise bitter foods taste palatable. Becuase they experience saltiness, bitterness more intensely than other people do, they need less fat and sugar to satisfy taste buds... as long as they have salt. But if this nation is successful with decreasing the salt levels in foods, this may change. We supertasters like more salt rather than less. I need to taste the salt in order for most foods to taste good to me partially because salt doesn't just adding salty flavor, but because it decreases or masks the bitterness of foods; bitterness that non-supertasters don't notice because their taste buds are not sensative.
In honor of supertasters everywhere, I raise my salt shaker in a toast! Salt it, because it tastes better that way.
